Bristol Dockers v Swansea Magpies match report

Magpies are given a lesson by Dockers

SWANSEA Magpies went down 118-81 to Bristol Dockers in their Aussie Rules league encounter.

Following last week's dominant win over the Cardiff Double Blues, the Magpies travelled east looking to shock last season's runners-up.

Swansea had two players making their debut for this tough fixture against an experienced Dockers team, who boasted a strong core of five Australian players.

From the off, it was clear that the Magpies were facing much sterner opposition, as the home team manufactured chance after chance, with only sloppy finishing in the first quarter keeping the score at 21-16.

Despite James Moon and Daniel Gelabert winning every ruck, the Magpies struggled with the work rate of the Dockers midfield, who ran riot during the second quarter to leave the score at 56-32 at half-time.

The Magpies weren't helped by some loose play, with much of the hand passing and link play that came off successfully last week not in evidence.

Despite a much-improved second-half display, the Magpies struggled to contain a strong Bristol team and ultimately finished on the losing side.

Despite his team struggling, last week's star man Donal Galvin still managed an impressive contribution of six goals and two behinds.

The Magpies now have two weeks off before hosting Bristol in a return fixture at Sketty Lane on June 9.
