Beach Training

Due to there being no game tomorrow, we will be making use of the beautiful weather for a training session on the beach. This should make for good fitness training and I'm sure it will add some extra fun to some of the planned training drills. We will be meeting at 12:50pm at the recreation ground car park, next to St Helens cricket ground. Directions from Sketty Lane posted below.

If for whatever reason you can't make training or if you would like more information please contact Geraint on 07824770312

Directions from Sketty Lane: Head back towards Swansea and you will see a gravel car park just past Swansea University and the entrance to Singleton Park. Click on Image to enlarge map.

Bristol Dockers v Swansea Magpies match report

Magpies are given a lesson by Dockers

Magpies Rob Baker charges down a Dockers Kick

SWANSEA Magpies went down 118-81 to Bristol Dockers in their Aussie Rules league encounter.

Following last week's dominant win over the Cardiff Double Blues, the Magpies travelled east looking to shock last season's runners-up.

Swansea had two players making their debut for this tough fixture against an experienced Dockers team, who boasted a strong core of five Australian players.

From the off, it was clear that the Magpies were facing much sterner opposition, as the home team manufactured chance after chance, with only sloppy finishing in the first quarter keeping the score at 21-16.

Despite James Moon and Daniel Gelabert winning every ruck, the Magpies struggled with the work rate of the Dockers midfield, who ran riot during the second quarter to leave the score at 56-32 at half-time.

The Magpies weren't helped by some loose play, with much of the hand passing and link play that came off successfully last week not in evidence.

Despite a much-improved second-half display, the Magpies struggled to contain a strong Bristol team and ultimately finished on the losing side.

Despite his team struggling, last week's star man Donal Galvin still managed an impressive contribution of six goals and two behinds.

The Magpies now have two weeks off before hosting Bristol in a return fixture at Sketty Lane on June 9.

Match Report!

With credit to Geraint Havard and South Wales Evening Post (thisissouthwales.co.uk)

"SWANSEA Magpies kicked off their new Aussie Rules season at Sketty Lane in emphatic style with a crushing 154-21 win over Cardiff Double Blues.
What made the win all the more impressive was that Cardiff finished just one place below them in the league last season.
The Magpies, fielding a mix of experienced players and some who had never previously played the sport, blew the visitors away in the first quarter with some exquisite inter-passing and fine goal kicking.
The midfield trio of Evan Phillips, Dan Gelabert and Rob Baker's dominance provided the forward line plenty of chances at goal, which they duly took to deliver a 56-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Swansea continued the scoring in the second quarter, with four goals and five behinds giving the team a comfortable 85-8 half-time lead.
In the second half, the Magpies took full advantage of the sunshine with some free-flowing hand passing movements up the field, which, combined with some accurate kicking and great marking in space, saw them romp away in the final two quarters.
Half-forward Donal Galvin picked up a personal tally of seven goals and one behind — 64 points on his debut in the sport.
The Magpies will be hoping to build on this result with a tough away trip to last season's runners-up Bristol Dockers next Saturday."
