Saturdays game
This weekend the Swansea Magpies will play host to the Vale Warriors, who will surely looking for revenge for the loss in the reverse fixture last month. This is the Magpies chance of consolodating 3rd place in the league for this season.
We will be meeting at 12 noon outside Sketty Lane pavillion for a scheduled 1pm kick off. Match fees are £3.
Injury-hit Magpies suffer heavy defeat
An injury-hit Swansea Magpies Aussie Rules team lost 139-48 at home to Cardiff Panthers to deliver a jolt to their hopes of reaching the Grand Final.
The injury problems mean the second-placed Magpies were always up against it as they entered the match with three players making their debuts.
Swansea started the game strongly and for large parts of the first quarter they had the reigning champions on the back foot.
However, inexperience in the backline gifted the opposition a number of easy chances to leave them off the hook and give them a slender lead.
In the second quarter, the Panthers flooded through the midfield and repeatedly left the home defence outnumbered.
Even though the new players were beginning to grow into the game, the pressure was too great and the visitors took control.
Injuries to James Moon and forward Donal Galvin only served to compound the home team's issues.
In the second half the Magpies kept their composure, with some impressive marks and a strong kicking game bringing the home team into promising positions.
But the end product was missing. With the Panthers continuing to push forward and outnumber the Magpies defence, their lead continued to grow.
Barry Cawte produced a sterling performance on his first game this season — with an injury keeping him out for the majority of the campaign — claiming four goals and two behinds and a number of impressive marks.

Team Polo Shirts
We are considering ordering some team polo shirts so we can look more like a team post match. The design will be as above but black instead of red, it will have the team logo on the left breast with the option of players initials on the right breast. Printed on the back will be Swansea Magpies Australian Rules Football Club. The polo shirts will cost £15.50 each, but may come down in price depending on how many people order them. Please could you contact Geraint on 07824770312 to declare your interest in buying one of these polo shirts.

WARFL Red Devils win the Brit cup
The Welsh Australian Rules Football League (WARFL) can today claim to have some of the best non-Aussie 'Footy' players in Britain. This weekend saw the AFL England Brit Cup hosted in Reading, and the WARFL Red Devils took home the Gold against 5 other teams representing Aussie Rules Leagues in England.
The tournament was a 12-a-side round robin competition of 20 minute games, with a strict ruling of no Australians allowed. With the coaches of the Great Britain Bulldogs watching, every team had the cream of British talent on display in one of the toughest competitions of the year. The Devils were made up of players from teams in the WARFL as well as Welsh International Players.
The Welsh got off to a fairly poor start as they struggled to a win against the Southern Saxons and then, due to some poor goal-kicking lost to the Northern Warriors 2.2.14 - 1.6.12. Lunch gave the Devils a welcome break to reorganise as they came out to thrash the London Honeybadgers, without conceding a single point. Complacency then kicked in as the kicks started going wayward again, however the Devils were able to see off the host, the Reading Kangaroos.
The Devils then went into their last match, against the unbeaten and pre-tournament favourite, the West Midlands Tigers, knowing that victory would assure them a place in the tournament Grand Final. Despite some intense pressure from the Midlands and some early goals, the Devils held their own and came out 3.5.23 - 3.2.20 winners.
This result placed the Devils and Tigers at the top of the table, but the Devils thrashing of the London Honeybadgers gave them a better score advantage to place them at the top as Minor Champions. The two teams then battled it out again to crown the Champions of the Brit Cup. The Tigers had brought 6 interchanges to the Devils' 1 and were looking for revenge, however the Devils dominated the first half and took a 1.2.8 lead into the break. However, the West Midlands subs started to tell as they took full advantage in the second half and looked to make a comeback. Two behinds made the score 1.2.8 - 0.2.2 to the Devils and it was only through sheer persistance and bravery in defence that the Devils held on to be crowned the 2012 Brit Cup Champtions.
Report courtesy of Joshua Davey.
Unfortunately we didn't have any reprisentatives in this team due to people having other commitments, however I know we have plenty of players in our squad who could have walked into this team and made a real contribution. Hopefully we will see everyone make themselves available for international selection at the end of the season and the Magpies can make a real contribution to future Welsh success.
